Binding Like a Boss

Learn the skills you need to create. your binding, stitch it on and get those quilts finished beautifully. We will begin by learning how to calculate how much binding is necessary and the different ways to cut, and prepare it for different types of projects. Preparing the quilt comes next, then we learn three different methods for attaching it to the quilt top along with two ways to join it together.

There will be a demonstration on how to create and incorporate piping as well as flanges, and also the use of a binding attachment for smaller projects.

ESSENTIALS:

You will need to bring your sewing machine along with a walking foot, a lap seam foot (Bernina #71), and edge stitch foot (Bernina #10/10C/10D), and a reverse pattern or zigzag foot (Bernina #1/1C/1D). An overlock foot (Bernina 2/2A) is also helpful, but not absolutely necessary. Marking pens in dark and light, pins, a rotary cutter and/or scissors, thread, and an extra empty bobbin are also essential. A stiletto or seam ripper is also very handy. If you don't have one of the afore mentioned items, please give me a call and we can discuss alternatives. 

SUPPLIES:

40 or 50 wt thread (any color)
Bobbin wound with matching thread.
An empty bobbin, scissors, snips, seam ripper, stiletto(optional)

We will be working on a generic quilt "sandwhich" as we learn the differnt techniques, but you are highly encouraged to bring a prject of your own in need of binding along with the binding material and matching threads. This will give you the opportunity to put your new skills to work while help is readily available.

Sewing Machine Rentals available for $25/session. Reservations must be made in advance of class through A Clean Stitch Sewing Center.

Students may cancel up to 1 week before class for a refund in the form of a store credit equal to the cost of the class. Any cancellations after 1 week before class will NOT be refunded.
