This is a true garment sewing class where you will be making a quilted jacket. The Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studios comes in two varying size options, choose the one that will fit you best.

Tamarack Jacket Sizes 0–18 or Tamarack Jacket 14–32

Purchase of the pattern is required.

Techniques involved include straight seams, basic quilting, inserting a welt pocket or you can choose to add an exterior pocket, and applying bias binding.

Suggested Fabrics
Main & Lining Fabrics Light to mid-weight cottons, linens, chambrays, and blends work well for this jacket. Since the fabric will be doubled and quilted to a batting avoid anything too heavy as the jacket may become excessively stiff.

Batting High quality batting in cotton, wool, bamboo, or a blend. Choose the thickness based on how warm you want your coat to be.

This class will take place over two sessions. The first session will be shorter than the second, but in that session Janet will help you read the pattern, take measurements and choose the best size for you as well as ensure you have everything thing you need to prepare for the second session. Sewing will begin during the second session.

The Tamarack Jacket pattern has been the "go to" pattern for many a quilter who wanted to make a quilted jacket. Just Google the name and you will find more inspiration than you can probably handle. You will even find examples of the pattern being shortened and lengthened.

Supplies are detailed in the pattern. Patterns will be available to purchase in store.
In addition to the supplies listed in the pattern you need to have a sewing machine in good working order.

Sewing Machine Rentals available for $25/session. Reservations must be made in advance of class through A Clean Stitch Sewing Center.

Students may cancel up to 1 week before class for a refund in the form of a store credit equal to the cost of the class. Any cancellations after 1 week before class will NOT be refunded.
