Quilted Jackets
In this fun 3 day class you will spend the time making 2 amazing, unique quilted jackets. The beautiful quilted vintage duster, and the adorable quilted patchwork chore coat. Both jackets are made from a completed quilts and have so many unique fun possibilites.
For the vintage duster you will need:
-A sewing machine that is capable of both straight stitch and zig zag.
-A completed quilt (at least 70"x70"). A flat sheet (this is to use as your pattern for the vintage duster jacket).
-A serger is nice but not necessary.
-Thread and standard sewing notions.
For the Patchwork Chore Coat you will need: The pattern (purchase and print ahead of time) click here for pattern link.
-Quilt size - Minimum 70” x 70” or larger if fussy cutting
-Prepare Bias Binding- The amount of binding you need will depend on your choice of finishes. Please do not bring store bought bias binding. You will need two sizes of binding.
-1-1/2” inner bias binding- 2 yards binding for neck seam, and
hood. Do not fold and iron. You may need more if you decide to
bind the inner seams so, please bring extra just in case.
-2-1/4” outer bias binding – approximately 6.5 yards for under
arm/side seam, jacket front and bottom, around hood/collar,
pockets & cuff
-Sewing machine for straight & zig zag stitch.
Preparations for students making the Patchwork Chore
Coat
-Coordinating threads for binding, buttons etc.
-Stiff pins or clips
-1/4” foot
-General purpose foot for zigzag & creating ½” seams.
-good scissors for cutting multiple layers & paper scissors.
-Sized Pattern
-needle & thread if hand sewing your binding.
Recommended Tools
-Walking foot
-Binding foot – HIGHLY RECCOMENDED for machine sewing
binding.
-Serger - if you want to serge seams vs zigzag.
-Buttons
-Buttonhole foot (if adding buttons)
-Stiletto or awl
