Paper Piecing

This paper piecing class is designed for any skill level, from beginner to advanced. Francine Miller will teach you how to sew points, make accurate geometric shapes, and how to sew templates together. By the end of this class, you will walk away with the ability to make your own paper-pieced art quilt. Patterns and templates are available to purchase at the beginning of class.  The pattern price is $8.00. Minimum of 3 students for this class

Materials Included: Pattern and templates
Requirements: Supplies needed: A clean and oiled, well-functioning sewing machine (and manual). If you wish to take this class but do not have a machine to use, please contact us, we may be able to reserve a classroom machine for you. A 1/4" presser foot and painter's tape to mark on your machine. A seam ripper. 2 bobbins pre-filled (1 white, 1 grey, or light tan). Extra needles in a variety of sizes from 70/12-90/14. We will try multiple different ones until we find the one that makes your machine happy. An "add a 1/4" ruler. Double-sided tape. A mini iron. A wool pressing mat (no larger than 14x14) A small rotary mat (No larger than 12x16). A rotary cutter and General sewing supplies. Most of these supplies are available at our store if you don't already have it. A paper copy of the supply/information list is also available for pick up at the store. Fabric Needed: a scrap of black fabric, 1/4 yd for background, a fat quarter in white, 4 colors of 1/8 yd cuts (these need to be very contrasting colors (lights, mediums, darks) and should be solids or very tiny prints

Instructor Bio: Ms. Miller is a retired teacher and middle school librarian. Ms. Miller took up quilting 20 years ago while teaching in Browning, Mt. ?I needed something to do on those cold brutal winter nights?. Ms. Miller took advantage of living next to Glacier National Park and became an amateur photographer. Combining textile art and her love of animal photography Ms Miller began her search for realistic quilting of animals. 10 years ago Ms. Miller took a thread painting class in Santa Fe, NM and she was on her way to discovering realistic art quilts. While living in Texas Ms. Miller started attending art classes at a Texas University where she learned about color, background etc. Moving to Missoula 5 years ago Ms. Miller joined Tarts: a textile art group. Combining all this knowledge and her passion for teaching Ms. Miller has returned to teaching and sharing her love of quilting.
