Thread Painting



In this two part thread painting class taught by Francine Miller students will learn what threads are practical and how to blend threads for realistic art quilts. Students will also learn options for digital printing on fabric and gain an understanding of which photos make the best thread paintings.  This class is designed for any skill level and this project can be done on any working sewing machine. Minimum number of students for this class is 5

The teacher will provide a kit with an 8x10 photo (assortment to choose from) and the thread, fabric and batting needed to complete an 8x12 thread painting art quilt.

We will take a break for lunch on the second day, we do have a fridge and microwave available for use if you would like to bring snacks, food, or drinks.

Registration Deadline  February 17, 2025

Sewing Machine Rentals available for $25/session. Reservations must be made in advance of class through A Clean Stitch Sewing Center.

Students may cancel up to 1 week before class for a store credit equal to the cost of the class. Any cancellations after 1 week before class will NOT be refunded.

Late registrations may be available and are at the discretion of the shop in coordination with the instructor. Please contact A Clean Stitch Sewing Center for late registration inquiries.

Instructor: Francine Miller
Instructor Bio: Ms. Miller is a retired teacher and middle school librarian. Ms. Miller took up quilting 20 years ago while teaching in Browning, Mt. ?I needed something to do on those cold brutal winter nights?. Ms. Miller took advantage of living next to Glacier National Park and became an amateur photographer. Combining textile art and her love of animal photography Ms Miller began her search for realistic quilting of animals. 10 years ago Ms. Miller took a thread painting class in Santa Fe, NM and she was on her way to discovering realistic art quilts. While living in Texas Ms. Miller started attending art classes at a Texas University where she learned about color, background etc. Moving to Missoula 5 years ago Ms. Miller joined Tarts: a textile art group. Combining all this knowledge and her passion for teaching Ms. Miller has returned to teaching and sharing her love of quilting.
